2007 Kawasaki Ultra LX top speed???

I know the Ultra LX (1,498cc non s/c'ed) was not meant to be a speed demon but I am just curious to see what this PWC's real top speed is? Any firsthand experience would be nice.

But that means I got to do the legwork!......

I broke the engine in yesterday while on Lake Michigan. Once I find some calm waters I will see what it will do. All I wanted to muster (due to buttache) was 40+mph over the tops of the 2'-3' swells yesterday. Once I get a GPS and a nice glasswater I will try to see what it will do. My guess is about 57mph maybe a little faster. I hear the STX-15f's do about 60-61 MPH stock and have the same engine but weigh in about 100lbs less than the LX's do.

Here at Personal Watercraft Illustrated, we tested out our LX on a couple of different instances. Our first top speed test was conducted at the Long Beach Marine Stadium here in Long Beach, CA a couple of months ago where the LX was clocked at 51mph at wide open throttle with a 210lbs rider.

Only two weeks ago, we took the LX to Lake Pyramid a couple of hours north of Long Beach and found that the LX's performance was nearly identical, running a repeated 50-to-51mph with the same rider. Hiring an experienced "young gun" rider (who weighs only 160lbs), he saw 53mph, with our radar gun reading 51-52mph.

It must have a huge amount of drag compared to the 15F

    R-12X

    Manual Boost Control

If you don't have to balance your watercraft its a boat

Undoubtedly, but take into account that while the LX outweighs the 15F by 80lbs, is 10-inches longer, and half an inch wider, the LX's hull is drastically superior to the previous design found on the 15F.

I surmise that it will take very little to prompt the LX to surpass the 51mph glass ceiling and reach near factory 250X numbers. It's got the engine, the mechanics, and hull for it, all it needs now is the proper additional equipment.

    A pig? NO.
The top speed champion in its class? NO.

When compared to those in its class (Honda's F-12X, Sea-Doo's GTX, and Yamaha's WaveRunner FX HO), the LX is the least expensive, equally powered, though slightly heavier, and equally tempered (if not better) than those in the lineup. In direct competition with those boats, I'd have the LX in first any day.

Interestingly enough, the LX has great acceleration, it's the top end in which it suffers. The GTX will lurch ahead of the LX again and again, but the LX's hull (especially in rough or ocean going water) wins in handling and ride comfort. So yeah, it's not the fastest in the bunch, but one of the best behaved.

The only major complaint that I've heard of here at PWI, is the Ultra's use of plastic in the steering stem. I've had four individuals contact me about breaking and fatiguing steering systems. Have any of you heard anything about this matter?

I was able to skim over the wavetops the other day while going pretty fast. Maybe once some more mods come out for this thing then I can make mine a little faster too.

Hmmm 250HP gets a little over 65 and you're thinking that 160HP if tweaked will get close? Homey don't play dat in my opinion.

Not sure if I buy only an 80lb. difference, either. And that would only be with an equivalent amount of fuel. Not at capacity.

I usually only get around 58 GPS and only broke 60 with a tailwind.

If I wanted speed, I'd get the 250, if I wanted the best combi of rough water handling, economy and speed, I'd take the FXHO.

I went with best bang for the buck and fun factor. Happy in all but heavy chop.
