I'm particularly interested in hearing back from other 636 owners on this one, but all replies are welcome of course.

Where does a 636 top out (revs & mph)? I'm curious about this, as I have heard everything from 155 mph to 178mph. Haven't pegged mine yet actually, just interested in the experiences that others out there may have had.

I'm sure its capable of 170 or more. I think it revs to 15500 RPM, I could be wrong but not by much.

stock it probably wouldn't be able to do more than 160mph actual, who knows what that would be indicated.

15.5k redline
It should top out at roughly 165.

I've put mine to 154mph, but actual speed I wouldn't know. there going to be a difference between the speedo and the actual speed.

I had my 03" going 280kph on the speedo which is in the range we are talking!!! Hard to find the area to do this speed in a safe way... Yes the redline is 15500 and it pulls in 6th to 13000 or so it will rev to 16000 without making the funny noises(oops).

Hey!!!!!! didn't do any serious damage or any damage at all for that matter!! I just discovered that the valaves will float or the rev limiter kicks in around 16000 rpm's.. I had it turn an 11.2et @ 125mph in the quarter any other times out there?

I can get my 03 6RR to get up to about 165 so I'm pretty sure the new 636's can get a little more out.

At those crazy speeds tiny little variables can make a big difference. To max out speed you really need to be tucked in so close to the bike to maximize aerodynamic efficency. Having some kind of racing leathers on instead of textile/jeans also will help. Also, a 140lb person is going to get more speed than a heavier person. Air temperature and humidity are also going to play a factor, as well as your elevation, you aren't going to go as fast in colorado as you are on the shore of california. Even though a 636 is a powerful engine we are talking about a total displacement of 21.5 fl ounces, that 20 ounce coke in your hand is just about all the area you are working with to go 160MPH!!! No matter what kind of cool technology you have there really is no substitute for engine displacement. Motorcycles are aerodynamic bricks compared to cars, that is why if you want to kiss 200mph you need 1300 ccs of BUSA!! or maybe the ZX12R, but probably only 190 on that :D

hey virtual, how do you like the z750s? i love the look. i might have actualy bought it instead of the zrx if they had one on the floor at the time of my purchace. the best i can do now is to try to talk my co worker in to one instead of the sv650 he's hooked on. that way, we can switch, and he can try the big-bore too. ;-)

So far the bike is great. It handles wonderfully and has very strong power. It isn't a literbike, but 109hp isn't slow either :) For the longest time I was going to get a sv650s, then Kaw brought this wonder to the united states any my suzuki dreams disappeared. You can not beat the smooth power delivery that inline 4s give you. With the suzukis I liked the sv650 seating position, but I also wanted the sv650s fairing. With the z750s I get both and 20 to 30 more horsepower :) The 750 is also VERY forgiving of being in the wrong gear to accellerate. The powerband is so broad that I rarely need to kick down a gear to pass someone, all it takes is throttle. If I do kick down a gear I usually am hitting 90 mph before I even realize it. The problem with the bike is the confidence the power gives you. A few times recently I have been riding and some fool has been on my tail. I kick it down and take off. Soon I am going 90-100mph and not tucked at all into the tank. I've had some scary situations where I felt I was going to blow off the back only because I didn't get a chance to tuck down before I hit that speed.

I have a new 05 636 and I went 155 @ 11.5k and it had room for sure.

There's a lot to getting a high top speed. As been stated, there's a lot of variables like HP, environmental conditions, and aerodynamics. Indicated speed on our bikes isn't actual speed. It's been very well documented that the speed error gets pretty large as the MPH climbs. That's why there's a good market for device like the Speedo Healer. As the aerodynamics are concerned of a bike, they are actually pretty good. The ZX-10 I own has a very low Cd (coefficient of aerodynamic drag.) The new ZX-6 has an even lower Cd. So many of the new sportbikes are a far cry from being aerodynamic bricks. What comes to play for high top speed figures is horsepower and aerodynamic drag of the whole bike/rider package. The Busa and ZX-12 do well in top speed runs because they have the large displacement needed to produce the power and because the way the fairings shield the rider's body parts from the slipstream.

Well even the direction the exhuast is pointed will effect speed. There are lots of variables that you can mess with to get it to go faster.

Dallas elevation, low low humidity and about 70 degrees i got mine to an indicated 164 which was the last time i looked at the speedo and started to slow because we were coming up on city limits.. also this was downhill if that matters haha.
