There's no question the 2015 Infiniti QX50 is oriented well toward the sporty end of the crossover spectrum, so if that's your priority and you view a crossover's extra utility mainly as a bonus when compared to a sport sedan, you're likely to find the 2015 Infiniti QX50 has the balance just right.

The 2015 Infiniti QX50 is a five-passenger luxury crossover that comes in two trim levels: base and Journey. Rear-wheel drive is standard for both, with all-wheel drive optional for either trim.

Standard equipment on the entry-level QX50 includes 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, foglights, power-folding heated mirrors, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, leather upholstery, power front seats (eight-way driver, four-way passenger), heated front seats (all-wheel-drive models only), 60/40-split-folding rear seats, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a 7-inch display, Bluetooth phone connectivity, a rearview camera and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack and an iPod/USB audio interface.

With the Premium package selected, the door opens to the Deluxe Touring package. It includes 19-inch wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, driver-seat functions, driver two-way power lumbar adjustment, an eight-way power passenger seat and a folding rear seat with power raising.

Finally, with all of the above on board, you can then select the Technology package that includes lane-departure warning and prevention systems, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic braking and a blind-spot monitoring system.

The 2015 Infiniti QX50 has a single engine and transmission pair: a 3.7-liter V6 that generates 325 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard. All-wheel drive is an option for either the base or Journey trim. The EPA's estimated fuel economy is 20 mpg combined (17 city/25 highway) with rear-wheel drive and 20 mpg combined (17/24) with all-wheel drive, which infringes marginally on highway fuel efficiency.

Standard safety features on the 2015 Infiniti QX50 include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, side-curtain airbags and active front head restraints. A rearview camera also is standard.

The optional Technology package adds forward-collision warning and mitigation through automatic engagement of the brakes. Also included are blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning and a lane-keeping assist system.

In brake testing of previous model years, we recorded a 60-0 mph stopping distance of 118 feet, which is a very good result for this class.

In testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the QX50 earned a top score of "Good" in the moderate overlap frontal-offset, side-impact and roof-strength crash tests. Its head restraints and seat design also received a "Good" rating for whiplash protection in rear impacts.

Infiniti's aim with the modest dimensions of the QX50 was to create a crossover that has genuine handling ability. If that's a priority, you won't be disappointed: The QX50 handles more like a sport sedan than just about any compact crossover. Accurate and communicative steering and the QX50's relative absence of body lurch during cornering give you a lot of confidence, even on challenging back roads. The brakes also snap to your commands, a trait not always present in utility vehicles, even those with premium badges.

Meanwhile, the QX50's compact size pays another performance dividend: It's got less weight to carry around, so the V6's throaty 325 hp should accelerate this crossover more quickly than most competitors. When accelerating, you might hear a little more engine and wind noise than in other luxury crossovers, but it's never an annoyance and mostly underscores, in a pleasant way, the small Infiniti's genuine sport orientation. Whatever extra noise might be generated is more than balanced by this crossover's agreeable and compliant ride quality.

Infiniti's reputation for meticulously assembled interiors is fully on display with the 2015 QX50. The standard leather upholstery joins high-quality plastics and a pleasing overall design for a cabin that has a distinctly premium look and feel despite being unchanged since this model was introduced seven years ago. This age makes the QX50's user-friendly electronics interface all the more impressive, as it continues to shine in contrast to the fussy arrangements of many other luxury vehicles. You find yourself quickly orienting to operating the system, which deftly integrates aspects of touchscreen, voice and multifunction controller operations.

Because it shares the same underpinnings and suspension as the G Sedan, the 2015 Infiniti QX50 rides and drives very much like a high-end sports car. Its 3.7-liter V6 is as smooth and responsive as any we've tested and the standard 7-speed automatic transmission delivers seamlessly smooth gearchanges. This transmission also features an advanced downshift-rev-matching feature that assures smooth downshifts and improved stability, but it isn't as precise as some competitors when it comes to more aggressive driving. The QX50's sport-tuned suspension allows it to round curves with confidence, but overall ride quality is more jarring than in a Lexus RX or Audi Q5. Off-the-line acceleration, on the other hand, is first-rate, and there is ample passing power as well. Opt for the Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system and you'll find the 2015 QX50 a competent year-round ally.

The base 2015 Infiniti QX50 rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive models feature standard leather seating surfaces, keyless entry and start, 8-way adjustable driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera and a 7-inch color dash-mounted display. Infiniti is Nissan's luxury car division. Established in 1989 to compete on the US premium auto market alongside brands like fellow Japanese Acura and Lexus as well as European-based BMW,  Audi and BMW, Infiniti managed to create a global network in a fairly little amount of time. Its history can be traced back two decades ago when the company's first vehicles were sold.

Part of the Oriental commercial tsunami, Infiniti swept across the American land with remarkable speed but with little strength. Freshly born, it did not scream loud enough to be heard. Sales of their first model, the Q45 were fairly poor as a result of what is widely believed to have been slightly bad advertising. In attempt to draw attention to their cars, Infiniti resorted to a series of Zen-inspired commercials that showed the car very briefly or not at all in some cases.

However, Infiniti concentrated resources in a second ad campaign and production of superior quality automobiles that eventually paid off. No matter how good or bad Infiniti's ad strategy was, its vehicles were truly attention worthy. The Q45 for example sported a brawny 278 hp V8 engine, four wheel steering and active suspension, all of these features having been a premiere for automobiles in its class. Meticulously executed trims and fine finishes further added to the car's overall appearance.

Even the Infiniti badge hints at the extent the company would go to develop a quality top-selling product: far. Comparisons are lost within infinity thus 'far' becomes incommensurable. The horizontal bars shaped to form a stylized highway meet somewhere close to the horizon which is never a fixed point.

Besides clever product badging and advertising, Infiniti has been striving to stay on top ever since it became a stable brand. If the car-market context of that time is to be taken into consideration, Infiniti did good considering that European markets had surpassed traditional brands like Lincoln and Cadillac.

The beginning of the 1990's saw Infiniti launching a second model, the M30 which sold rather slowly compared to the Q45. Towards the mid 90's however, Infiniti would release the QX4, a modified version of the Nissan Pathfinder, making the company the first to have sold a luxury SUV right after specialized manufacturers like Jeep and Land Rover.

After experiencing poor sales due to insufficiently developed models and wrong demographic targeting, Infiniti was nearing extension. Just like Hyundai, Infiniti did not cease to exist but instead focused on developing a newer range of vehicles that ultimately ensured the brand's survival. The marque entered a new stage in 2003 with the release of the G35, a model predating the launch of the G37, a model farther from anything Infiniti has done in the past.

Great car with a couple problems

I have owned and loved my previous G35 Infiniti for several years and many other vehicles that were high and medium end vehicles. This is a great car but it has a couple engineering flaws that even Infiniti acknowledges. The first and most important is the outside temperature reporting. It's always wrong! Infiniti knows that the problem in placement of the temperature sensor next to the radiator. So, why not fix it? The outside temperature then drives the automatic temperature control in the vehicle. Another problem is blind side visibility. It's addressed with an add-on package at the factory, but cannot be added once you take delivery. Not to be a Scrooge, this vehicle deserves justice for the facile buggy it is. Fast, fun to drive, responsive and it has substantial room for luggage, garden equipment/supplies and dog cage used for our trips to the park. I'd buy it again, but engineering needs fine tuning, as alluded to above. Comment after 1 year: The new buyer comment is still on the money. Great car with above caveats.

very satisfied

I bought this car for my wife and both of us love it. She loves the interior design, quality sound system and electronic features. I enjoy the smooth transmission and the added power of the 3.7 and quietness of the engine over the turbo noise in other small suv's. Handling is sharp and gives a good feel of the road. On highway the road noise is much lower than I experienced in other brands (especially the Honda CRV).

Love it

Have had my QX50 a week and love it. I am getting 19 mpg in all city driving, so not as dire as I feared. Haven't had it on the highway yet. It drives and rides like a dream. Love the wheat interior with moonlight white exterior. Absolutely no complaints.

2017 INFINITI QX50

"Amazing Engine, Incredible Workmanship"

After owning a 2015 Jeep Cherokee my 2017 QX50 AWD by comparison is 2x the vehicle. Where the jeep had way more features none of them worked. The infiniti is light on all the gizmos and heavy on performance. I bike about 14miles to work a couple times a week. The days I drive I get to drive the infiniti. These cool crisp fall mornings and with the motor properly warnmed can smoke all 4 tires coming out of corners. This motor is a beast. I think the performance numbers are understated. This car has very close to 375-390hp and keeps up with a Tesla model S. Why else would an engine have 2 air intakes. Total beast of an SUV, ,

2017 INFINITI QX50

"Couldn't fine a smoother ride and better style"

I was looking for something really different and I found it in the QX50 AWD INFINITY. Super comfortable, very distinctive and an eye catcher. The interior is chocolate brown (they call it chestnut). I purchased this model because I didn't want a giant SUV. It is very responsive to my driving needs here in Vermont, summer and winter. I'd recommend to anyone.

2011 INFINITI EX

"Just keeps going. Great car, well built."

I have owned this car for going on 2 years and have logged over 30,000 in that time. Only issues I have had was a camshaft sensor and the sway bar links. Both easy fixes. A very quiet driving car with fantastic acceleration and stability. Just aren't many of these out there, but if you find a good one they are a bargain in my estimation. My car happened top be a well documented and serviced 2 owner car and that is why it has been very dependable for me.
