Hello again,
My quest for a faired CTX700 was nearing the end.... when this happened: https://www.tipmoto.com/motorky/hon...bs-automat-jen-7029-km-led-cr-super-cena.html
A 3 year old NC750X with DCT - genuine mileage (about 4000 miles), great condition and only minor scratches from a stationary fall - landed on tarmac and the owner. The bar ends and the brake lever are now replaced.
Pricewise, it's the same as the CTX700 I have a crush on - considering the CTX needs new rear tire (current is squared) and brake fluid change (hasn't been since 2014 when the bike was brand new). It has done 12K miles.
The dilemma I have is that on the short run, I find both seating positions comfy. NC allows better control (body steering) and more commanding riding position - better visibility and everything. On the other hand, knees seem to be bent a bit too much for long rides.... CTX is more relaxed, seat is much better.... but my worry is that with legs forward, I won't be able to keep my feet on the pegs without considerable effort.
I'm 6-1 tall (185 cm), have 11-12 sized shoes (46-47).
Anyone keen to share their experience? Thanks.

I'm sure you know they are both based on the same basic design.
I would love to see that upgraded engine in the CTX.
The CTX with floorboards is extremely comfortable for long rides. I don't think the same could be said for the mid position NC.
They are both fine scooters though, so you can't really go wrong either way.

I've been on rides with both bikes; me on my CTX and my buddy, 6"1 and 210 on the NC. Individual preferences and inseams will make a difference. We both found we were able to ride the CTX longer with greater comfort. Steering can be more responsive on the NC,and the both get similar mileage, but for me, being 5'9 with 30" inseam, the CTX works better. Besides, I own mine, fully paid for and I don't have to worry about not being flat footed when stopped, especially on a long ride.
Ride them both if you can and buy the bike the gives you the best feel for the riding that you do.

The bikes are nearly the same except riding position. Riding position is most important here, so it should be a no brainer~

I'm 6-1, and liked the tucked leg back riding position. Having said that, before I decided on the C I kept getting on each one, back and forth. Finally decided that swinging a leg over the NC was just going to be tedious in the long run.

Is the NC750 sportier than the CTX? By sportier I wonder about what the max lean angle would be in comparison?
I was also thinking about the vfr1200x as well even though it's more coin and weight for power trade off. I'm not sure it will necessarily translate to a sportier bike though?

I used to own the NC700X. Few regrets in life but i truly regret selling that bike. I want a 750X back in the garage.
We own the CTX now. Compared to the NC, the CTX it is less sporty. The NC was quite a bit more fun to ride than the CTX is comparing stock to stock.
I own a VFR now. I absolutely love the bike. It is very powerful, tons of torque, and fun when you want it to be, tame when you need it to be, and you can do 500 mile days comfortably and that is not an exaggeration. CTX/NC do not compare to the VFR. 52 BHP to 127 BHP, chain drive versus shaft drive, 500 pounds versus 620 pounds. It is fast and torquey...you can raise the front anytime you want. Zero buzziness with the V4. Super smooth.

Was 2017 the last release for the VFR1200X? Comparing bikes of different configurations and size is like comparing "apples to oranges", both fruits, but one can give you heartburn. Why not just consider the African Twin?

I was originally looking at the Africa twin however based on my riding style I started having second thoughts. I like the power of the VFR and that it's shaft driven. It's also designed for more on road use than off-road, which is where I'd probably be spending majority of my time.
I think I'm looking for a sports tourer I can carve twisties thats also comfortable and not set up like a ninja.
I like the low cost and sporty nature of the NC.
I like that the VFR is shaft driven and can be taken off road (non technical single terrain). The VFR seems like a better bike than the Africa twin even if they stopped producing it back in 2017.
I'm willing to sacrifice power over cost
I'm not willing to sacrifice sporty on road manners that why I started rethinking the Africa Twin.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and helping me think through it.

According to Hondaprokevin the NC 750 makes 54hp and the CTX700 46.9hp. I doubt you would even notice the extra 7.1 hp although the extra ground clearance might help you go faster. This engine design is a great all around fuel efficient design and its power characteristics aren't close to what you need for keeping up with your friends on the type of roads in the videos you have been posting. Google the best canyon busting or carving motorcycles to see recommendations. I would be looking at bikes like the Yamaha Tracer 900 GT. This guy has gone through a few bikes and rides the type of roads you do and he landed on the 900 GT with a top speed of 140mph,115 hp, 64.5lb of torque. You can pick a 2020 up for $10,699 Cycle Trader, a steal as compared to its competition in my opinion.

The 750 has a higher rev limit than the CTX 700. Should help a little if you are on manual trans. I was looking for a NC, but none where available nearby, and I won't pay for new.
Can't go wrong with the later model NC750 IMO.

Not that I am into max lean or peg scraping, but I believe with the taller set up you could do more aggressive leaning on the NC (mostly 750's being sold in canada vs the 700 that originally came out).

Here me running with an FZ10
The CTX does well all things considered.
The boys riding the taller bikes got left behind.

Great post and advice.
